Lowerschoolers Dance, Laugh, and Compete in Games
23 January 2012
Duck Week is an annnual fundraiser in The Lower
School. The principal gathers many local charities that open booths
with many fun things to do. The children's parents then provide
their kids with money to spend on everything. All the money raised
goes to helping the less fortunate, animals in trouble, and much
more.
This year's Duck Week included an amazing disco, tattoos, and many
more fun activities. There was a non-stop sound of kids laughing
and enjoying themselves. While some were testing their newest dance
moves, others would be talking and having fun with friends and
listening to the newest music.
I had a talk with a third grade student, Oscar Bech
Anderson.
How much fun do you find Duck Week?
"I love seeing all my friends in other classes."
Do you know that all the money raised goes to well known
charities?
"Yes, it goes to many people in need."
Describe how fun it is working in booths.
"It's fun, but not the best because I cant buy
things."
Kids continue to laugh and scream constantly, until the clock hits
15:00. Then the fun is over until the same time tomorrow. The kids
seem to be happy spending money for the good. Some even said that
they bought things for their friends since some were not allowed to
bring money.
Finally, this not only benefitted the younger children but also
high school students. They were able to help out at the event to
contribute to their Duke of Edinburgh program. In conclusion, Duck
Week was truly a great fundraiser, and we encourage other schools
to be involved in a similar event such as this.
