ACS Egham Art Department Help the IB Setup New Video Assessments
31 January 2012
Final assessment in the Diploma Programme Visual Arts course
involves an interview with the student, who will talk about the
artwork completed and investigations undertaken throughout the
course.

This interview is the opportunity for the student to provide
background information and explain some of the research, planning
and thinking behind the various pieces on display.
For many years the person doing the interview has been an IB
visiting art examiner, but this year is the last year that schools
will have this visit: from 2013 onwards, the teacher will do the
interviewing, and this interview will be recorded and then sent to
the IB.
Many IB art teachers have asked for help and guidance over the
interview process - for example, what questions should they ask,
how formal should the interview be etc.

As Head of Arts, and an experienced visiting examiner and the IB
Visual Arts Deputy Chief Examiner I was asked if an IB cameraman
could come to our school to film some sample interviews, with some
of our grade 12 IBDP visual arts students, in order to help the
wider visual arts teaching community. ACS Egham prides itself on
being a leader in delivering IB courses of the three programmes -
PYP, MYP and DIPLOMA and so this was an easy decision to make. Many
fellow faculty members also take part in working for the IB as
examiners, moderators, course developers or evaluation school visit
team members.
These films will be made available through the
password-protected IB "Online Curriculum Centre" so that IB art
teachers all over the world could see some examples the
interview process. On January 18th the IB filmed art
interviews with four grade 12 DP art students: Filip, Anna,
Franzi and Michaela (work displayed in this post.)

This interviews are currently being edited before being uploaded
to the OCC, but the IB have already expressed their gratitude and
appreciation of our students' willingness to help the IB teaching
community. The IB will share some video clips in the near future
and we will hopefully be able to show some here on the On
Campus part of the website.
