ACS Egham MS - York Trip 2012
12 February 2012
"During the days 11th of January to 13th, the sixth grade
was on a school trip in the beautiful city of York. We had to
arrive at school at 7:45am since the bus left approximately at 8.
It was a long bus ride! It was 4 ! hours! We arrived in York at
about 1:30pm and headed straight to York Minster.
Everyone had their mouths wide open admiring the humongous
building. We got to learn more about the Minster when we visited
the education center which really brought York and the Minster
alive. By the time we were done with the afternoon activities it
was getting dark, but that's just when the fun began. After getting
settled in at the Racecourse center and having dinner we were
scheduled to meet for a Ghost walk around York. Who knew such a
small city could have so many ghost stories! The journey was better
than I anticipated, and we arrived safely without any problems. All
in all bus ride was pretty comfortable, enjoyable and fun!

York was very interesting with all the wonderful activities.
In my opinion I found the York minster my very favorite. It was
beautiful and the amazing architecture and interior was breath
taking. The windows were probably my favorite because there were
very colorful and the patterns were absolutely splendid. The York
Minster was so fun to learn about. It was probably the biggest
minster I've have ever seen, let alone go inside. I also enjoyed
the education center and learning even more. We learned about how
the Minster was first made and all the changes the Romans, Normans
and Anglo & Saxons made to make this magnificent historic
building that stands today. I felt the activities were a great
learning experience, not only for 6th grade but the teachers that
came with us!
There were great moments during the trip but my most
memorable was when we went to Murton Park and visited the Roman
Fort. As well as learning about the different jobs required, we got
to dress up as Roman Soldiers we learned about conquer, control,
build and patrol.
My favorite moment was when we were patrolling and to let
people in to certain places you had to say the password which was
''Hail Caesar.'' I loved stopping people and saying ''HALT,
PASSWORD!'' blocking them with my fake spear. Learning about the
Romans was so fascinating especially in the city of York, the
capital of Roman Britannia.
Even though I was new and hadn't been studying the Romans
for several like the rest of 6th grade, I still really caught up
and really connected my new knowledge of the Romans to my old
knowledge. Memorable moments were everywhere during the trip, and
the excitement really helped everyone get into the mood of learning
with a touch of fun.
The York Trip was a great learning experience for everyone
not only the students! By going to the once Roman city of York
really helped up picture how the city could have looked thousands
of years ago. We were so lucky to get this wonderful opportunity to
visit the beautiful English city, York."
