ACS Egham Student Council - Organises a Fabulous Winter Ball
12 December 2011
ACS Egham International School students entered into a festive
spirit, organising a spectacular end of term Winter Ball that took
place at Mansion House Assembly room on the 3rd of
December.
ACS Egham High-School Student Council led the planning and
organising for the Winter Ball, raising money through Krispy Kreme
doughnuts and bake sales, and sourcing decorations for the winter
themed Ball from local garden centres.
Over 125 students attended the Ball, where guests arrived on a
red carpet and were greeted with sparkling apple juice in champagne
flutes, and a three tier Christmas cake decorated with Father
Christmas and his sleigh, snowmen and polar bears.
DJ James Park provided the music and there was a centre piece
three foot chocolate fountain, provided by Annee Nesbit of
'Chocolate Tickly Treats', with fruit and marshmallows for
guests to enjoy. Christmas came early for some lucky students
through the ticket prize draw held throughout the evening. On the
hour, every hour, a numbered ticket designed by student Adriana
Melchor was pulled from a box, with three winning ticket holders,
Anna Schtorm, Tim Bayer and Marnix Tissing receiving a new iPod
Shuffle.
The whole event was led by 11th Grade students Clare
Soeting and Sarah Johansen. Over the past few months they both met
regularly with fellow student volunteers to prepare for the Winter
Ball
Sarah Johansen and Clare Soeting, student organisers of the
Winter Ball were thrilled with how the event went:
"We loved going to buy decorations and then coming
in on Saturday morning to transform everything into a twinkling
wonderland. We sprinkled fake snow in the fireplaces and
arranged fairy lights up the mansion staircase. Students in
all 4 grades were brought together and the chocolate fountain was
definitely the highlight- everybody loved it! There were
strawberries and marshmallows and even little doughnuts - it was
amazing and so pretty".
The Winter Ball is a new event at ACS Egham and Deborah Bailey,
High School Student Council Supervisor was impressed by the work of
the students:
"This was an event for students, run by students,
and I was so impressed that all the hard work was realised on the
night - even the weather was perfect! The Ball gave students a well
deserved opportunity to relax, get dressed up and enjoy a very
glamorous evening. With the three-tier Christmas cake and festive
decorations, the Ball has definitely got everyone in the Christmas
spirit, and I am very excited to see what the High-School Council
will plan next."
