IB Diploma - Teambuilding Day 2011
06 September 2011
The morning began with grade 11 attending the CAS Introduction
with Ms Cole. Being new to ACS and the IB I was unsure of what
activities counts as CAS hours. We were given a detailed
presentation by Miss Cole which gave us an idea of what we can do
to achieve our 150 hours, and how to go about starting new actives.
I learnt that CAS should be a combination of activities I find
rewarding and satisfying. It involves interaction with others and
is beneficial to the community.

I came out of the Introduction buzzing with ideas on how to
approach CAS. Following our break, grades 11 and 12 were put into
mixed groups, and we went to the time and stress management
workshop run by Mr and Mrs Mullen. In this we learnt how to limit
our stress and how to go about presenting stress. Each of us did a
individual questionnaire about ourselves and gave us a score based
on how stressed we are. We then made a monthly planner in which we
wrote out commitments and our deadlines. Finally, we ended the
workshop with a de-stressing tutorial - please click on the video
to see some of the visualisation techniques we used. The workshop
taught me how I can effectively reduce my stress by organising
myself. I wish I was more aware of this when I was on my GCSE study
leave!

After lunch we attended the Circus Skills workshop run by Circus
Space, which would help build confidence in ourselves and friends.
The workshop had a unique mix of activities such as juggling,
hula-hopping, jump rope and human pyramids. I was tired by the end
of it, although I thoroughly enjoyed it. I found it challenging,
but it was great to come out of my comfort zone and do something
completely different.

Overall, the day was a fun experience. Students from both
grades, came together as a team, and had a great day in the
progress!
