New sports centre at ACS Egham
13 March 2012
Building work on the addition of a state-of-the-art sports
facility here at ACS Egham has been on-going for 6 months and
we have come a long way in that time.
This new facility will
promote a wider recreational offer, including a dance studio,
fitness suite, two FIBA basketball courts and an indoor climbing
wall. This new building will also provide an opportunity to
redevelop and change the use of our existing Gym into a large,
flexible space for drama, dance, musical performance, assemblies,
exhibitions, meetings, and Lower School activities.
However, the key benefits delivered by this new facility are the
opportunities they bring to the IB educational programmes and the
co-curricular options made possible.
These benefits include:
- MYP enhancements to assessment practices, as the increased
space will allow teachers to
- carry out wider and more varied range of assessed
activities
- More balanced range of activities for PYP PE curriculum, such
as adventure challenges and
- movement composition
- Additional classroom space with a technology suite to enhance
our programme
- Increased participation in after school sports and activities
which have previously been restricted due to limited space
In addition, the new facility gives us the potential to run an
IB DP course in Sports, Exercise and Health Science.
Ultimately,
the new facilities, together with the new IB Diploma Centre, will
further support student success through wider campus and curriculum
integration. Over the coming months we will provide regular updates
on our progress with the build and please be assured that every
effort will be made to minimise the disruption to school life as
construction moves to a Summer 2012 completion.
