ACS Hillingdon Student Chosen for the London 2012 Choir
02 December 2011
A seventeen year old student from ACS Hillingdon International
School has been selected to join 119 other young singers from all
over the UK to sing in a youth choir to represent the 2012 Olympic
and Paralympic Games in London.
Oscar Croysdale took part in auditions involving some 4,000 young
vocalists to gain a place in the project, called the Youth Music
Voices Ensemble. The choir, which is part of the four year Cultural
Olympiad Programme leading up to the 2012 games, encompasses a
diverse mix of talents from the classically trained to gospel-style
vocalists.
The group, all under the age of twenty-one, have been practising
together this year during intensive three day residential courses
in London and Birmingham. They held their debut
performance at St. Pancreas International Station and are due to
sing at a high profile event in Trafalgar Square later this
year.
Oscar, who is classically trained to grade seven at singing,
said:
"Singing is a large part of my life and when I heard about the
Young Music Voices project I thought it would be a really good
thing to get involved with. This is a really interesting and
special project because anyone can get involved with it, regardless
of background. It's really exciting to be a part of the Ensemble
as, not being particularly athletic, this is something I can get
involved with and contribute to London 2012."
The choir will sing songs specially commissioned and arranged to
encompass a broad variety of musical styles from all around the
world. Songs on the repertoire include Michael Jackson's Man In The
Mirror and Sunset by Nitin Sawhney.
