At ACS Egham, children are the heart of our community. We make them feel special and valued, and encourage each and every one to be the best they can be.

Cindy Blanes, Early Childhood & Lower School Principal

Cindy joined the ACS team as Lower School Principal in 2009 having previously worked at Greengates, Mexico City, as the PYP Coordinator and Deputy Head of the Infant and Junior School. She was pivotal in taking her school through its IBPYP accreditation. Cindy has worked in both the British and international systems, and has over 20 years' experience in education. Cindy has a great love for all things historical and studied classical and medieval history with archaeology for her first degree with Surrey University. She then went on to complete her postgraduate studies in education at Surrey before starting work as a classroom teacher in London. Cindy studied for her Masters in Education in Mexico whilst also lecturing and working to support undergraduate teachers at the same university.

All our children are empowered to strive for, and achieve, their own personal goals.

Our curriculum is founded on the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP), which:

  • Is inquiry-based
  • Builds on individual knowledge
  • Emphasises how to learn and how to find out
  • Adds to the traditional basics of literacy and numeracy
  • Recognises the importance of communication skills, problem solving, teamwork
  • Applies learning to new situations.

This programme also affords children the opportunity to have a sense of personal wellbeing: to feel empathy, self-confidence, belonging and responsibility.

We work hard to support new children transitioning into our school. All are encouraged to respect and enjoy the diversity of cultures, beliefs and ideas that exist in our own school community and the world around them.
