NEW Performing Arts

In August 2018, we launched our first ever drama program at ACS for both middle and high school students. At ACS we value self-expression and use the dramatic arts to build connection, communication and creative risk-takers. We use a fresh approach to our drama program by creating our own relevant theatre pieces from scratch. High school students are currently devising their own theatre piece on “high school fails” to showcase the palpable (and often hilarious) moments in an IB high school. Middle schoolers are hard at work crafting humorous scenes with wacky props for their upcoming show in March.

In a nutshell:

  • 76 students
  • 6 microphones
  • 3 platform stages
  • 7 shows
  • 102 posters
  • 2 Drama Clubs
  • 1 ACS theatrical family

A strong drama programme is critical to building student confidence, self-expression, school spirit and a sense of belonging. I believe that the dramatic arts are a rehearsal for reality…and we’re preparing our students to be creative communicators and courageous global citizens.

Drama

We have two drama clubs (one for middle and one for high school) that meet once a week, all year round. We host high school-only Open Mic nights every trimester, and each club creates their own original show in the fall and spring. Our clubs focus on improve games, script writing and ensemble-building work. Although this is our flagship program here at ACS, we already have over 76 students involved in drama club!

In the future, we hope to expand our drama program to include musical theatre with dancing, singing and musical productions. For the 2019-2020 school year, we will produce two large theatrical performances for the middle and high school students with scripts, costumes and set pieces. All students are welcome to audition!

We are hoping to produce our first-ever musical on our new campus in August 2020!
