ACS Hillingdon Lower School renewed as Apple Distinguished School

ACS Hillingdon Lower School has recently been renewed as an Apple Distinguished School until 2021 for its use of technology to enable innovation in learning and teaching.

The Lower School at ACS Hillingdon has been an Apple Distinguished School since 2016. The programme recognises schools that are centres of innovation, leadership and educational excellence and demonstrate Apple’s vision of exemplary learning environments.

Sue Wakefield, Curriculum and iMake coordinator, said: “As an Apple Distinguished School, our lower school teachers continually evolve the way they use technology in the classroom through Apple products and apps. iPads in the school support effective communication and collaboration, and students are able to access a world library of rich, ever-changing resources. Through Apple technology learning is transparent and regularly shared with students’ families.”

To celebrate the school’s renewal as an Apple Distinguished School, staff have published their second book on the Apple Book Store titled ‘Continuous Innovation’, sharing the school’s ongoing commitment to innovation through effective use of technology. The book documents the school’s use of Apple products and apps which enable students to extend their learning beyond the classroom and collaborate with other students, whether in the same class, a different grade level, in the wider community or around the world.

Michelle Eriksen, Lower School Principal at ACS Hillingdon International School, commented: "This new book showcases to other educators how we use technology innovatively at ACS. As well as teaching students to use it responsibly and respectfully, staff design relevant, meaningful activities to encourage students to use technology to develop their voice, explore their identity, and think critically and imaginatively to find solutions to problems."
