Lacy Chapman, Lower School Principal

After leaving university, Lacy worked for a few years as an actuary in an insurance company in California before entering the field of education. She earned her teaching credential and Masters Degree in Special Education at San Francisco State University, then taught at elementary, middle and high school levels in California. Lacy earned her Master’s Degree in School Administration from UC Berkeley. She has been a Principal at two elementary schools, before she moved to London in 1995. Lacy has worked in the ACS Lower School for the past 20 years and has loved watching the division grow and change to meet the rapidly changing needs of our students. She values the opportunity to share – with parents and teachers alike – her drive for shaping the lives of young students. Lacy champions the collaborative and supportive environment of the Lower School where students, teachers and parents are encouraged to embrace change and innovation in the pursuit of excellence.

We believe that all children have the ability to thrive and achieve at school. Our teachers encourage their natural curiosity with individual support and a wide range of experiences both in and outside of the classroom. We take full advantage of our beautiful 128-acre campus and all the outstanding facilities and outdoor opportunities it has to offer a young, adventurous mind. Together, we hope to instil a thirst for knowledge in every child that will hopefully last a lifetime.

Our young students begin to learn through play, exploration, and lessons that are both stimulating and fun. Our qualified and experienced teachers and specialists use the most effective approaches to help students develop positive skills, understanding, values, and attitudes.

In close partnership with parents, we actively welcome new families into our school. We want to see children quickly gain courage, optimism, and the resilience to persist in the face of challenges. As our students come to us from both local and international families, we are proud to be able to say that all are ready to take full advantage of the opportunities that lie ahead.

What subjects to expect

Our world-class curriculum is built on the principles of the Responsive Classroom – a way of teaching and learning that emphasises our core values. Reading, writing and mathematics are taught every day and enhanced by lessons in science, the visual arts, world languages, performing arts, physical education, people skills, and IT. Our staff also includes expert learning support teachers at every grade level, English as an Additional Language (EAL) specialist teachers for our non-English native speakers, and a challenge and enrichment programme to provide extension for our students.
