Robert Harrison

Chief Executive

Robert Harrison is an accomplished education executive with a lifelong commitment to learning and teaching. He holds a PhD in Religion and Sociology from Duke University and has built a career defined by high-impact leadership across public, private, and charitable sectors around the world.

After years as a special educator and teacher leader in Washington, D.C., Robert joined the International Baccalaureate (IB) in 2010. There, he served as the first manager for global education and later as Head of Middle Years Programme (MYP) Development in The Hague. During his tenure, he led the worldwide implementation of “MYP: Next Chapter” and spearheaded the development of the innovative MYP eAssessment.

After his initial appointment in 2018 as ACS’s first Education Strategy Director, from 2022 to 2026 Robert was Director of Education and Integrated Technology. Bridging the gap between teaching and commercial operations, he helped deliver robust business systems and integrated processes that modernized the group’s infrastructure. His leadership was instrumental in establishing a comprehensive education quality framework, resulting in measurable excellence in both academic outcomes and school climate.

A frequent author, speaker, and former co-editor-in-chief of the IB Journal of Teaching Research, Robert continues to drive strategy at the intersection of curriculum design and technological transformation.

Graeme Lawrie MBE

Director of Operations

Graeme is Chief Operating Officer at ACS International Schools, with strategic responsibility for IT, HR, Marketing, Partnerships and operational delivery across the organisation. A qualified teacher with over two decades of experience in education, he brings a distinctive perspective as a senior leader who has progressed through the profession from classroom teacher to executive leadership.

Graeme began his career at Oakham School as a teacher and house parent, before joining Sevenoaks School in 2006 as Head of Department. In 2009 he became Head of Faculty for Science, where he led the development of one of the world’s largest free science events in the UK at the time. He went on to hold a number of senior leadership roles including Director of Innovation and Excellence, and Director of Outreach and Innovation, building a reputation for delivering large scale, high impact educational initiatives.

Throughout his career, Graeme has combined educational leadership with operational and strategic delivery, leading complex programmes, managing multi-disciplinary teams, and building partnerships across sectors. His work has focused on widening access to opportunity, developing innovative approaches to education, and ensuring that organisations operate effectively in support of their core mission.

In addition to his school-based leadership, Graeme has worked with OCR, AQA and the International Baccalaureate, contributing to curriculum and assessment development. He also completed a yearlong secondment at Buckingham Palace as a Special Advisor to the Royal Family in 2015.

Graeme was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2020 for services to education. He has received multiple national awards, including the Lloyds TSB Teacher of the Year and Pearson Teacher of the Year, and was named by TES as one of the top five science teachers in the UK.

He remains passionate about social mobility and the role education plays in transforming lives, having worked with hundreds of schools, charities and international communities to create meaningful opportunities for young people.

Outside of work, Graeme enjoys climbing, motorsport and engineering projects, and spending time with his family.

 

 

Martin Hall

Martin Hall grew up in Scotland and gained his first degree in Political Economy and Philosophy from the University of Glasgow.

He taught Economics, Business Studies, and History at highly regarded state schools in England, and then at a Tanzanian school for two years with the VSO. Martin served as Secondary Principal at the Inter-Community School of Zurich, and most recently, as Director of the International School of Tanganyika in Tanzania. He is an experienced member and co-Chair of accreditation teams and was a Board member of the Association of International Schools in Africa. Martin has a Masters in Educational Leadership from the Open University, and the National Professional Qualification for Headship.

As a school leader, Martin has continued teaching such classes as Economics and Theory of Knowledge, valuing the continued opportunity to develop his professional practice and interact directly with students. Martin is committed to the culture of excellence in schools, setting high aspirations for students and encouraging critical thinking throughout the school community. He is passionate about supporting student achievement and well-being through effective pastoral systems and nurturing student engagement.

Mark Wilson

Mark Wilson

Mark Wilson has been teaching and leading schools for over 27 years. He started his career in the UK before moving into International Education by joining Nord Anglia Education in 2009 at The British International School Shanghai as a Headteacher. Mark then moved to the US and was Head of School at The British International School of Houston.

Mark trained as a Drama teacher and has taught a range of subjects over the years at GCSE, A Level, BTEC and IBDP. He still teaches Theory of Knowledge on the IB Programme.

Inspiring others to learn and grow is one of Marks passions and throughout his career he has been privileged to be involved in teacher training, working with a variety of universities and providers including, Middlesex, Nottingham and Sunderland Universities as well as the Royal Academy of Dance. Mark was fortunate to have worked for the UK Department of Education Innovations Unit on Leadership projects. Within Nord Anglia Education he taught or coached on the NAE Middle Leaders and the NEA Senior Leaders courses and wrote and facilitated the Americas Aspiring Leaders programme.

Robert’s journey to ACS has had many stops along the way. British by birth, raised in Australia, educated in Australia and the UK and living and working internationally since 1991.

Robert’s international school career has taken him to Rome, Frankfurt, Berlin, Ho Chi Minh City and Jakarta. In that time, he has taught in Lower Schools as well as Middle School English and Mathematics and Learning Support. He has been a divisional Principal, Assistant Principal, Head of School, Curriculum Coordinator, teacher trainer and member of authorisation teams for the International Baccalaureate Organisation.

Hazel Kay

Graduating with a degree from Lancaster University in Marketing and French, Hazel started her international marketing career working for American Express in London and Paris.

She then worked in a number of regional and global consumer marketing roles for the mining giant De Beers before moving into the luxury technology and fashion sectors.

Prior to ACS, Hazel worked as Interim Marketing Director at Selfridges attracting both domestic and international shoppers to its mutli-category stores and online platform. Hazel’s appointment to the ACS International Schools Executive team follows a period as Head of Marketing and Admissions across the group.

Hazel brings strong and broad international marketing experience, gained in both large blue chip and smaller organisations with an international footprint. Fluent in French and a strong Italian speaker, she enjoys being part of an international multi-cultural organisation dedicated to advancing education for the next global generation. Outside work Hazel enjoys running, playing tennis, London’s cultural delights and is studying for an OU degree in English literature.

Passionate about shaping people and culture to help organisations in pursuit of their core purpose, Heather has wide experience in leading the people agenda within complex and global businesses across a range of industry sectors including technology, telecoms, FMCG and professional services organisations.

Heather has also worked as an independent consultant with senior leaders leading complex change programmes, whilst delivering executive coaching to enable leaders to achieve their personal and professional goals.

Heather holds a Business Degree from Kingston University, an MSc in Organisational Behaviour from London University Birkbeck, and is a qualified Executive Coach and NLP practitioner with Henley Business School.

In her personal time, she enjoys dog walking with her husband and their crazy cockapoo.  She has a passion for singing, is a member of a musical theatre group and delights in embarrassing her family and friends with her antics in local amateur dramatic productions!
