ACS team competes in LEGO final

ACS Cobham team put in a great performance in the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s first LEGO League England and Wales national final.

The event was hosted at UWE Bristol Exhibition and Conference Centre on 22 February with over 500 young people attending, all keen to demonstrate their skills in robotics and computer programming. They were tasked with creating an innovative solution to a real-world problem, using teamwork, research, problem solving and communication.

ECOLUTION

The ACS team qualified for the finals by winning the Portsmouth Champions title in December. The team featured nine students from Middle and High School. “Our team represented ACS with a wonderfully enthusiastic approach and a positive attitude. ECOLUTION demonstrated great collaboration skills, perseverance, and professionalism.

“Although we did not get to the top 12 in the national final, we all left feeling positive, learning things we cannot teach in classrooms and with a one-of-a-kind experience,”

While they did not make the finals, the team received the Gold Level Industrial Cadets Award, which recognises the skills, knowledge and the understanding they developed during the months-long preparation process, which each student putting in over 50 hours.

“Out of over 2,600 teams competing throughout the whole of the championships across the UK and Ireland, we are extremely proud that our team got placed in the top 40 in the UK, which proves that we have wonderful young people in our school,” added Dr Hammer.
