ACS Hillingdon celebrates opening of brand new Sports and Activities Centre
Staff, parents and students at ACS International School Hillingdon have celebrated the opening of the school’s brand new, state-of-the-art Sports and Activities Centre.
The building includes a large sports hall suitable for competitive sports, a fully-fledged fitness suite, a dedicated coaching area and an indoor climbing wall. Alongside this, to comply with the London plan for net zero targets, the centre also has 190m2 of solar panels, air source heat pumps, an exterior living wall, natural ventilation, high-quality insulation and efficient underfloor heating. The new sports centre adds to ACS Hillingdon’s extensive sports facilities which also include 14 acres of sports fields at Iver Fields, a short ride from the school’s campus.
The expansion of facilities also coincides with the second year of the school’s proprietary elite sports programme known as the Elite Performance Pathway (EPP), which offers enhanced coaching and training support to students with outstanding sporting potential and those who are training and preparing for future sporting achievements. Previous ACS Hillingdon students have benefitted from sports scholarships to prestigious US colleges including Saint Leo University in Florida.
On the day of the opening, a number of student 3X3 basketball matches were played in the sports hall, a new addition to the Olympic games. Other activities included a VIP tour, a live dance performance from one of ACS Hillingdon’s dance troupes, and trailing of the new features including the climbing wall.
Speaking about the centre’s opening, ACS International School Hillingdon’s Head of School, Martin Hall, said: “It’s been a real pleasure to welcome attendees to our brand new, state-of-the-art Sports and Activities Centre. As a school, we’re committed to student development both inside and outside the classroom, and we hope that these new, sustainable facilities will help students follow their sporting aspirations during their time with us and further support wellbeing for all our students. We are excited to put the centre to use in the following weeks, months and years.”
