OUR FACILITIES

The impressive mansion was originally constructed in white brick and stone in the classical style, between 1854 and 1858, by P.C. Hardwick for Sir Charles Mills, an international banker from one of the most affluent City families of the 19th century.

Now it is home to our school reception, Head of School office, and our Upper School classrooms. These beautiful light-filled rooms look out onto the extensive grounds and woodlands.

The Upper School Library is located in the original mansion building with three separate rooms containing cedar panelled walls and bookshelves.

Classes are also held in these rooms along with collaborative study and research group lessons.

The Red room has an ornate ceiling and decorations in red and white, with gilt plasterwork.

When Hillingdon Court was owned by the Little Sisters of Mary, the Red Room was used as their chapel, but it has since been restored as far as possible to its original décor, complete with gilded mirrors and frescoed ceilings.

The room is now used for assemblies and music performances, and a variety of clubs including fencing.

The Green Room was originally the mansion dining room. It too has been restored as far as possible to the way it looked during the 1800s.

The decorations in the Green Room include fruit, grains, and hunting symbols such as the dog and fox faces painted on the ceiling. The room is now used for assemblies and music performances, and a variety of clubs.

We have an extensive Visual Arts programme embedded into our curriculum throughout the school.

We believe in the student-centred ethos that is promoted across the whole school and this informs our teaching and curriculum design. In our displays and exhibitions of work, our student voice shines through and makes for the variety and range in the work on show.

Our art studios are located on the upper level of Mansion with impressive views of the grounds.

Our auditorium was recently upgraded with state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment and offers a contemporary space for performances and all-school assemblies.

Our Think Tank is located on the lower ground and is used for lessons and clubs in coding, media and design.

In this innovative space, students are able to build their skills including writing code, programming robots, and directing, shooting, and editing films.

The Science Centre at ACS Hillingdon includes seven laboratories and preparation lab.

Students benefit from the centre’s enhanced testing capabilities, such as the high-quality Vernier temperature probes, allowing them to conduct advanced scientific experiments.

Flexible furniture has also been used throughout the labs to facilitate student collaboration and project work.

The separate building is home to our Digital Arts department with state-of-the-art technology for students following our International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP).

It also includes several music and composition studios for timetabled classes and private tuition.

Our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classrooms are located in a purpose-built facility with direct access to a wonderful outdoor space.

Pavilions is also home to our Lower School art studio and performing arts studio where specialist teachers lead weekly sessions. A recent addition is an outdoor classroom with wooden benches.

Our dedicated Lower and Middle School libraries are located on the lower level and offer a quiet and calm environment for students to read and explore a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction books.

Our dining hall is a modern, well laid out facility providing a breadth of international dishes to reflect our diverse community of students. It provides special dietary requirements for those that require this as well as a wide selection of options from simple salads and sandwiches to fresh soup and a selection of hot meals that change on a daily basis.

Our 4G pitch is located at the back of the mansion building and is used for a wide variety of sports including football, softball, rugby, and baseball.

Our Sports and Activities Centre includes two modern sports halls which are used by all grade levels for a wide variety of sports and activities—including basketball, volleyball, dance, PE and badminton—and is home to our ACS Hillingdon Hawks varsity teams.

Our fitness suite supports the physical wellbeing and fitness development of students. It features a variety of exercise equipment and zones for different types of activities, offering opportunities for both individual workouts and group fitness classes.

Our contemporary Sports & Activity Centre features a state-of-the-art climbing wall for students to enjoy.

ACS Hillingdon has three tennis courts situated close to the Sports Centre. Tennis is one of our seasonal sports. The tennis programme caters for all abilities in the spring season in creating a high-level performance and training culture that facilitates students to achieve their goals.

We are proud to own an additional 14 acres of football pitches, rugby fields, softball, and baseball diamonds at Iver Fields, a short ride from campus.

We have an extensive Forest School and outdoor education programme at ACS Hillingdon.

We have qualified Forest School educators throughout Lower School school which provides our students from the age of four upwards the opportunity to extend their education outdoors.

The magical setting enables children’s learning to take place and taps into their natural ability to learn more about the world around them. We have developed plenty of playful spaces, where children can let their imagination come to the fore.

This type of play fosters more diverse thinking and creativity where children are able to find their own solutions, ultimately helping them to conceptualise their learning and ideas.
