Global recognition for ACS Hillingdon AP results

ACS International School Hillingdon students have received the results for their Advanced Placement (AP) exams, securing prestigious post-16 qualifications recognised by universities worldwide.

ACS Hillingdon offers College Board AP courses within its High School curriculum, enabling students to gain AP qualifications as part of their ACS High School Diploma (US) alongside International Baccalaureate (IB) and /or High School courses, or as an additional diploma - the AP Capstone Diploma (APCD) will be studied from this academic year. ACS Hillingdon graduates will now go on to study at universities across the globe, including: George Mason University (US), Northeastern University (US), New York University, University of Surrey, Brunel University and University of Westminster.

Coming from a very different country and culture, I thought I would struggle connecting with people in the UK, but going to an international school allowed me to meet people who were also from different backgrounds, which creates an immediate bond. With everyone being from a different culture, not only was it easier to connect with people, but also brought new perspectives and enriched my understanding of the world.

- Isabella Couto, Student

The cohort of 25 students taking AP courses at ACS Hillingdon this year achieved anaverage point score of 3.0, compared to the global average of 2.91 points. AP courses are scored from 1-5, with a score of 3 or “qualified” indicating that a student is capable of doing the work of an introductory-level course in a particular subject at university.

Nine ACS Hillingdon students received AP Scholar awards this year, meaning they achieved grades of 3 or higher on three or more full-year AP exams.

While many exam boards across the world decided to cancel this year’s spring exams in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the College Board made the decision to amend all 2020 AP exam dates and portfolio due dates, and developed exams that students were able to take at home.

Recent ACS Hillingdon graduate Isabella Couto comments:

“Coming from a very different country and culture, I thought I would struggle connecting with people in the UK, but going to an international school allowed me to meet people who were also from different backgrounds, which creates an immediate bond. With everyone being from a different culture, not only was it easier to connect with people, but also brought new perspectives and enriched my understanding of the world.

“I am going to be studying Social Work at New York University and am very grateful that ACS did a great job in supporting me, by allowing a flexible schedule to focus on my difficult classes. It also helped that both teachers and the other students were always very encouraging. I can’t wait to start the next chapter!”

Martin Hall, Head of School, ACS Hillingdon, comments: “A huge congratulations to our students who have completed AP courses this year; you have all gained academically-challenging, rigorous qualifications which will have immense value as you progress to higher education and your future careers. As well as being recognised for its academic excellence, the AP prepares students with the critical time management, problem-solving and independent learning skills which are vital for future success. Students have worked very hard and we wish them all success and happiness as they take their next steps.”
