Children enter school excited to learn. They are explorers, engineers, investigators, and designers.
They wonder, question and seek to understand. We believe it is vital to nurture these qualities as well as children’s natural curiosity, imagination, and enthusiasm, ensuring that the excitement and magic of learning and exploration in the early years is cultivated as children grow and develop.
Through dynamic teaching we stimulate learning on a child-by-child basis. Each child is the heart and soul of our school and we work collaboratively with each child to inspire them to be the best they can be. Our aim is that they leave lower school, confident, able to communicate and think for themselves and collaborate with others with a thirst for curiosity, innovation and self-discovery.

What subjects to expect
We provide a strong academic foundation. Reading, writing and mathematics are taught every day, enhanced by lessons in science, social studies, art, music, physical education, coding and media, languages and cultures, Spanish, character education, and library skills.
Where possible, units are trans-disciplinary and students engage in hands-on, authentic project-based activities. Appropriate use of technology augments our curriculum, providing students with unique learning experiences that facilitate higher level thinking in new and innovative ways. A Support Services Programme provides for students who require learning support and English as an Additional Language (EAL), and a Challenge Extension Programme offers accelerated progress to students who qualify.
Science and Social studies
Science and social studies encourage and build on children's natural curiosity and inquisitiveness. A hands-on approach is taken in science and our goal is to encourage understanding of what science is. Our aim in social studies is to increase understanding of civics, geography, history and economics.
Lower School Curriculum
We use a team teaching approach to differentiate instruction for students who require additional learning support, English as an additional language or challenge extension. Children’s progress is frequently assessed, and the results provide the basis for further instructional decisions.
We are very fortunate to be part of a diverse multi-cultural community at ACS Hillingdon. Situated in the United Kingdom, it is important for our children and community to embody British Values, including mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. Therefore our goal is to help our children find out about the world, including the people and places within it.
We teach and encourage respect, celebrate diversity and explore beyond our own families. We endeavour to recognise the interconnected and interdependent nature of our global community. By helping our children to be flexible and creative individuals who communicate and cooperate widely, they become aware of what it means to be a world citizen.
Our lower school students have been recognised by the Council of International Schools as promoting global citizenship and the development of international awareness in the community. We are very proud of our children and their positive impact on our ever-changing world.

Our one-to-one iPad programme provides students with unique learning experiences that facilitate higher level thinking in new and innovative ways.

ACS Hillingdon Lower School has recently been renewed as an Apple Distinguished School until 2021 for its use of technology to enable innovation in learning and teaching.
