Relocation at ACS

ACS is an active member of the relocation community, with a strong network of contacts dedicated to helping new families adapt to their new surroundings.

We’re proud members of the Association of Relocation Professionals (ARP), the European Relocation Association (EuRA), and Admissions, Marketing and Communications in Independent Schools (AMCIS). We’re also featured in FOCUS magazine.

Both FOCUS and Relocate magazines offer excellent resources for expatriates moving to the UK, providing valuable insights and practical advice to support a smooth transition.

Hannah Gelder

Corporate & Relocation Development Manager

Hannah began her career in sales and business development at Audley Travel, a leading luxury tour operator, where she helped establish the company’s first overseas office in Boston.

Her experience includes roles in travel marketing, primary education, and business development for The Intern Group, a global internship provider. Before joining ACS as Corporate and Relocation Development Manager, she worked at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, building corporate partnerships and driving business growth.

With broad international experience across B2C and B2B sectors, Hannah is passionate about education and fostering global connections.

Transition

All ACS families have access to The Wellbeing Hub — a trusted, expert-designed resource that supports the social, emotional, and educational needs of young people.

As part of our commitment to helping new families settle in, ACS offers a range of transition activities tailored to the time of year they join. The post-admittance journey begins with access to our Admissions Hub, and new families are added to a list shared with the Parent Support Organisation (PSO), ensuring they’re warmly welcomed by the parent community. For students moving from Lower to Upper School, we also organise ‘bump-up’ transition sessions led by faculty, helping them prepare for the next stage of their education.

Throughout the year, ACS hosts a variety of events to help new families connect and feel at home. During the summer, our informal ice-cream social brings families onto campus to start building relationships in a relaxed, friendly setting. Just before the start of the school year, we hold a new student orientation, featuring introductions to key staff members and ‘market stalls’ providing information on buses, clubs, music, and more.

Once the school year begins, the PSO continues to foster community spirit with events like the welcome BBQ in September and the International Fair in the spring. Together with the ACS Admissions team, these events ensure every new family feels supported and included from day one.

Transition Tips:

Give it time and prepare: A successful transition takes time, and involving children early in the process is essential. Decide when and how to tell them — even if they don’t fully understand the changes, they’ll pick up on the emotions around them.
Involve your children: If possible, visit their new school, home, and local area together. This helps them visualise and get excited about their new environment.
Maintain their favourite activities: Reassure your child that their interests and hobbies can move with them. Explore local clubs, teams, or classes so they can continue doing what they love in their new community.

I just wanted to thank you so much for yesterday's networking event. It was so interesting to see the children in action and to hear the talk and subsequent panel discussion on AI in schools and in society. Earlier this week, visited the amazing campus of ACS International Schools in Egham. It is always fun meeting new people and one does also meet people who you already know during such events. The ACS team put together an amazing spread of refreshments and coffee, a very well organised guided tour of the school & also took us back in time for experiment in the science lab for doing flame tests.
