Pria Gokhale, ACS Egham Alumna 2006 – 2009

Pria Gokhale is an ACS Egham alumna, and now a sophomore at the University of Texas in Austin. Born in Austin, Pria moved to London at the age of five where she attended ACS Egham Lower School and then moved to Tokyo at the age twelve. After serving as the editor for the children’s book Aya’s Home, Pria continued her passion for representation in education, leading her to publish ‘Her Story is Our Story.’

Reflecting on her childhood, Pria recognised an absence of so many women of colour that she wished she could have learned about, 

"I rarely saw a person who looked like me celebrated in my classroom, printed in my history book, or made into a statue. Mistakenly, I believed this was because most women of colour had simply not done anything notable; as I grew older, I realised that this could not be further from the truth".

Pria’s recently published children’s book ‘Her Story is Our Story’ features ten amazing women of colour who should be known, in the hopes that other young women may have the representative role models that Pria didn’t find as a child. All proceeds from the book benefit a local organisation in Austin, Texas called GirlForward, which helps young women displaced by conflict and persecution in her community.
