Enquiry-led learning
Guided by six trans-disciplinary themes of international significance, students studying the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) deepen their learning through exploration, investigation, and play.
Each child’s learning experience across the curriculum is planned by our highly experienced teaching team at ACS Egham.
Our classroom environments are set up so that children are able to move between dedicated areas for reading, writing, art, construction, imaginative play, science, and mathematics.
Outdoor learning
At ACS Egham, we encourage students to find and follow their personal strengths, taking advantage of our beautiful campus and all the outstanding facilities it has to offer.
Our Forest School and Outdoor Learning programme supports children’s learning through play, exploration, and supported risk-taking.
Our classes are able to get hands-on with nature, embedding their classroom learning into real-life contexts and developing their empathy towards the environment. Outdoor Learning is integrated within our curriculum, and encourages children to be confident individuals and caring contributors with genuine curiosity.
Digital learning
IBPYP students learn through a variety of digital tools that support access to the curriculum content.
Students are provided with a toolbox of resources; in Lower School our 1:1 iPad programme means each child is equipped with age-appropriate apps to support their learning.
In Pre-K, our weekly free-flow afternoon lesson helps students explore apps for reading, letters & sounds, numbers, and stories. From Kindergarten to Grade 2, students participate in a weekly Digital Learning lesson where they are taught IT skills, coding, digital citizenship, and online safety, integrated with IBPYP Unit activities and aligned with the national PSHE curriculum.
Students in Grade 3 to Grade 5 are taught coding, digital citizenship, and online safety, as well as age-appropriate social media use.
A unique learning environment
At ACS Egham, our school is a true community where everyone works together to fully support all of our children throughout their time here. We are proud to be part of a diverse multi-cultural school community made up of families from many nationalities.
During their time with us, our students develop the skills, knowledge, and attitudes to be internationally-minded, ethical, global citizens, and school ambassadors. Even at this young age we believe in the importance of listening to their thoughts and opinions, so they are ready to explore the individual areas of interest within the teaching framework.
Delivered through the IB Primary Years Programme (IBPYP), our enquiry-led approach supports, challenges and inspires every child as they take the first steps on their learning journey and begin to explore local and global issues in real-life contexts.
Teaching Framework
The IB programme for children aged 4 – 11 is the Primary Years Programme (IBPYP).
It follows a multi-disciplinary framework that encourage students to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning.
The IBPYP is taught in over 109 countries around the world and incorporates all the key subjects such as maths, science, languages and social studies, guided by six main themes:
- Who we are
- Where we are in place and time
- How we express ourselves
- How the world works
- How we organise ourselves
- Sharing the planet
Specialist subjects
The arts programme at ACS Egham has a reputation for excellence.
In Lower School, we offer a wide range of activities that broaden intellectual and creative skills. Our PSHE programme focuses on developing personal, social and physical wellbeing. Students explore concepts, skills, and attitudes that promote a happy and healthy life at school and at home.
Language development is also a crucial part of the Primary Years Programme (IBPYP). We offer the option of French or Spanish in the Lower School and for non-native English speakers, we develop the home language alongside English.
