ACS International School Egham celebrates another year of excellent Middle Years results

Students at ACS International School Egham are feeling triumphant after attaining impressive International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) results, with the Surrey-based school achieving an average grade of 5.3 (out of 7) across the cohort, significantly surpassing the global average of 4.3 points.

Out of the entire graduating year, the highest score achieved in the MYP by an ACS Egham student was an impressive 53 out of 56 points, equivalent to 8 GCSE subjects at grades 8-9. An exceptional percentage of students at the school secured grade 7 on a range of subjects across the curriculum (17%, compared to 4.7% globally).

Mark Wilson, Head of School at ACS Egham, said: “Every year, our MYP students make us so proud, and this time around is no different. Our MYP students have demonstrated dedication and confidence, and their results are a testament to their achievement in the rigorous Middle Years Programme. I hope that they develop even further in the next stage of their lives and go on to grow as both people and learners.”

ACS Egham is a leading UK school among more than one thousand select schools in 123 countries authorised to offer the MYP for students in UK Key Stages 3 and 4. Independent research by the National Recognition Information Centre for the United Kingdom (UK NARIC) has found MYP examinations directly comparable with GCSEs in terms of the difficulty level and range of assessed knowledge and skills.

MYP eAssessment comprises innovative on-screen examinations, classroom-based portfolios, and an extended research project. Students must demonstrate critical and creative thinking in challenging and unfamiliar real-world scenarios. Like GCSEs, MYP eAssessments meet stringent Ofqual standards and are recognised in the UK as Level 2 qualifications.

Wilson added: “MYP eAssessment challenges the outdated conventions of traditional exams like GCSEs. Rather than relying solely on rote memorisation and written recall, MYP eAssessment empowers our students to apply critical thinking, solve real world problems, and demonstrate their learning in dynamic and meaningful ways. This forward-thinking approach better prepares students for the challenges of the modern world.”

This May, more than 100,000 Year 11 students completed the MYP around the world. The programme focuses on cultural understanding, holistic learning and communication. As a globally recognised alternative to GCSEs, MYP courses prepare learners to become responsible members of local, national, and international communities with a demanding curriculum that encompasses English, World Languages, Geography, History, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Visual and Performing Arts, Technology, Design, and Interdisciplinary Studies.
