IBMYP - ACS Egham

IB Middle Years Programme

Studying the IBMYP

Our approach to learning in the middle years shapes intellectual curiosity, encouraging students to look for connections between the classroom and the world beyond.

The goal of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) is to develop critical, creative, and reflective thinkers who are able to inquire into significant issues and ideas and make connections between what they are studying and the real world.

Middle School is a critical time in a student’s development. At ACS Egham, there is a holistic approach to student learning. In a caring and supportive environment, students not only develop the necessary subject knowledge but also develop the attitudes and academic, social, and interpersonal skills they need to meet the challenges of today’s world and beyond.

Why choose the IBMYP for your child?

The IBMYP is an internationally recognised programme that provides additional evidence to support university applications.

The IBMYP builds upon the knowledge, skills and attitudes that are developed during the IB Primary Years Programme (IBPYP), preparing students for the academic challenges of Grades 11 and 12 and the IBDP and IBCP.

It’s a high quality programme of international education that will help your child to:

  • Develop effective working habits
  • Create something unique to their own learning journey
  • Strengthen their ability to communicate, interact and understand people from across the world
  • Take leadership and learn how to learn.

IBMYP Subject Areas

The goal of the IBMYP and ACS Egham is to develop well rounded and balanced learners. There are eight different subjects:

  • English
  • Language Acquisition (French or Spanish)
  • Individuals and Societies (Humanities)
  • Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • Arts
  • Design
  • Health and Physical Education

Key components: Service as Action and the Personal Project, an extended independent research project completed in Grade 10.

How is the IBMYP assessed?

At the end of Grade 10/Year 11, eAssessments provide opportunities for ACS Egham students to attain prestigious International Baccalaureate awards and externally-validated learning outcomes. The IBMYP certificate requires students to successfully complete a two-hour on-screen examination in four subjects.

Students will undertake interdisciplinary learning and submit e-portfolios in language acquisition and either design, arts or physical and health education. They will also complete an externally moderated personal project and meet learning objectives for Service As Action.

At ACS Egham, I have enjoyed three fulfilling years teaching IBMYP Digital Design and IBDP Computer science teacher. The students are a pleasure to teach, demonstrating a strong work ethic and dedication to their studies. The school's resources, including powerful computers, accessories and iPads, enable us to push the students beyond the ordinary, creating engaging opportunities for them to delve deeper into the world of computer science and technology. This access to advanced technology enriches their learning experience and equips them with valuable skills for the future.
