Project Nepal

38 students aged 15-17 travelled to Nepal to work on Shree Mahendra Primary School, here they:

• completed the construction of 3 previously unusable classrooms;
• installed, sanded and painted a privacy gate;
• supplied the school library with over 600 books;
• supplied staff with laptop computers and school stationery;
• painted 7 classrooms with educational murals;
• taught lessons in English;
• donated Physical Education equipment.

31 students travelled to Panchkal, Nepal to support a rural primary school serving 75 students up to age 10, our team:

• secured earthquake-related foundation issues;
• designed and installed a community football pitch;
• installed playground equipment;
• developed an after-school club;
• taught lessons in English;
• supplied stationary and PE equipment;
• painted 5 classrooms.

20 students travelled to Mkushi, Zambia to support the Itala Foundation School. Whilst out there, our team:

• built brick chalets to offer accommodation to vulnerable people throughout the community;
• spent hours playing with local children and learning about Zambian culture;
• assisted with food purchasing and preparation.

Due to the global pandemic, ACS students were unable to travel to Nepal.

The construction on the building project was put on pause during the various lockdowns.

Work resumed as soon as was possible and we continued to support our scholars.

Return to Nepal in the Spring break of 2022 with 36 high school students from grades 9, 10 and 11. ACS Egham students:

• assisted with the construction of the second building at the Shree Bhuwaneshari Bassic School in Panchkal;
• worked with the Nepali children, helping to teach them English, playing with them during breaks while teaching them some fun games to do together;
• had the opportunity to complete a 3-day hike and visited the cultural and heritage sites in Kathmandu.

Project Nepal had a very successful and memorable trip during Spring break 2023 to Nepal. Our adventure started with a 3-day trek in Chisapani National Park and Kutumsang area. We were treated daily to amazing views of the Himalayan Mountain range and surrounding areas.

Over the course of the trip, ACS Students:

• traveled 48 km east of Kathmandu to Panchkal for construction at Bhuwaneswari School;
• moved 10,000 bricks, sand, and stones by hand in 6 days;
• assisted in building exterior and interior walls up to window level on second floor;
• engaged Nepali students in games, English vocabulary, and building friendships;
• caught up with Legacy scholarship scholars at Sarabamangala College during exam season;
• met with Legacy scholarship scholars in Kathmandu upon return.

During the October break of 2024, Project Nepal embarked on another unforgettable journey. Twenty-six ACS students, joined by four students from our partner organization, Football Family, spent two inspiring weeks in Nepal. The team worked on a meaningful construction project at the Ajad School in Bhaktapur. Thanks to the funds we raised, we were able to pave the school’s multipurpose area, install a boundary fence for the junior section, and brighten the exterior walls with colourful, joyful murals.

Beyond the construction work, our students formed heartfelt connections with the students at Ajad, building friendships that transcended borders. After completing the project, we took time to explore Nepal’s natural beauty. Our group trekked through Chisapani National Park and the Kutumsang area, where we were rewarded with breathtaking views of the Langtang region, nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas.

We also had the chance to reconnect with our legacy scholarship students at Sarabamangal College in Panchkal and in Kathmandu. Witnessing firsthand the positive impact of Project Nepal’s financial support on their lives was both moving and motivating.

We returned home with unforgettable memories and the deep satisfaction of knowing that our efforts are truly making a difference.
