Our Facilities

Our purpose-built Senior School division surrounds the school quad.

These buildings are home to our Middle, Upper and High School students, sharing extensive resources such as Apple Technology IT labs, interactive classroom environments as well as our science labs.

It is also home to our dedicated University Counselling zone where students can prepare for their future beyond ACS Cobham.

This dedicated facility for our Lower School students provides the sanctuary of a village setting within an outstanding natural environment, while also giving our students access to the wider state-of-the-art facilities on our campus.

Each classroom boasts modern facilities with large interactive screens, and the Lower School Village is also home to a brand new science lab and “Discovery Centre”, which includes a new library and digital hub where students receive lessons around robotics and coding, visual art space and performing arts studio.

Students at the Lower School Village now also benefit from the “Hive”, run by our award-winning Digital and Teaching Learning Specialist, Lyndsey Stuttard.

The Hive has been designed as a place for children to interact with conventional technology, in ways other than ‘screen time’. Here, students can experiment with tools, such as the interactive sandbox, which projects digital content onto sand and interacts with how the children play.

These new resources help children to explore and understand more abstract concepts in the curriculum.

Fields and Woodlands boarding houses are situated at the heart of our vibrant campus.

Both facilities have contemporary student bedrooms, communal common rooms which include lounges where students can relax and socialise, and kitchen areas where they can either prepare their own snacks or enjoy those provided by the school kitchens each day.

Each boarding house is run by a team of dedicated and highly experienced House Parents, responsible for the pastoral and academic welfare for each student.

We have a progressive Visual Arts programme embedded into our curriculum throughout the school. We believe in the student-centred ethos that is promoted across the whole school and this informs our teaching and curriculum design.

In our displays and exhibitions of work, our student voice shines through and makes for the variety and range in the work on show. As the students become more experienced and competent as they rise through the grades in the school, we believe it is important to offer more choice in the options available for the students to express themselves, whether through the ideas they want to express or the processes they use to do so.

We have art studios within each division that give our students the best possible opportunity to develop their skills in visual arts.

The Poularas Performing Arts Centre boasts three music classrooms, a music technology suite, practice rooms, two drama studios, performance spaces and a 500+ seat auditorium complete with fly-tower. This impressive addition opened in August 2014.

At ACS Cobham we have three extensive library facilities. Our Lower School library is available for all of our students from 2 years old until 10 years old. We also have a dedicated Middle School library for students aged 10 – 14. Our High School library went through a full refurbishment for students aged 14 – 18. All the ACS libraries promote reading, build literacy skills, and champion intellectual freedom to support members of their multi-national communities in their growth as passionate readers and lifelong learners; responsible global and digital citizens; and ethical, effective handlers of information. They are the focus for each of our divisions to promote a quiet space for our students to focus on their studies.

Our science labs throughout the Middle and High School have the latest equipment and are supported by our lab technicians.

Our main dining hall is a modern, well laid out facility providing a breadth of international dishes to reflect our diverse community of students.

It provides special dietary requirements for those that require this as well as a wide selection of options from simple salads and sandwiches to fresh soup and a selection of hot meals that change on a daily basis.

We also benefit from a dedicated Lower School Dining Hall adjacent to the Lower School Village.

Our Innovation Centre is a recently developed Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) teaching space for Senior School school students.

Positioned in Marble Hall, the centre is home to state-of-the-art 3D printers and laser cutting technology, with a dynamic desk set-up for students to work collaboratively in groups on projects.

The Interactive Learning Centre (ILC) is a 134 seat tiered lecture facility complete with audio and video conferencing, delegate voting, microphones, cameras, DVD, VCR and online streaming media.

It is used across the school from Lower School students communicating live with astronauts to our High School students debating as part of the Model United Nations programme.  A real asset to our school environment.

Our film studio enables students to experiment with equipment and learn new techniques as part of our film programme.

Students learn to use semi-professional and professional software packages, non-linear video editing on Final Cut X and Premiere Pro, Photoshop, audio composition Soundtrack and Audition as well as post-production special and visual effects packages.

We have a dedicated medical centre which includes a team of three nurses and a health care assistant to look after the health of our students.

We are on duty from 8am until 6pm on Tuesday and Thursday and until 4pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Our all-weather floodlit sports surface is suitable for a range of activities including football, rugby and athletics. The state-of-the-art FIFA-accredited, World Rugby-accredited AstroTurf ensures students can compete on the finest pitch surface throughout the changing seasons.

The ACS Cobham pitch also meets FA requirements for competitive games, which means it will be a huge draw for inter-school competition. Not only will ACS enjoy a range of matches as part of the Independent Schools Championships, but the facilities also attract competition from a number of international and local schools, giving students the chance to hone their skills in a competitive environment.

At ACS Cobham, our floodlit 3G pitch and numerous well maintained grass pitches (for both Lower and Senior School students) means we are able to train all year round, this enables us to deliver a top-performing programme with the aim to inspire passion and confidence into our footballers.

We have excellent facilities for rugby and grass and 3G pitches, including a highly qualified and experienced coaching staff.

Teams compete against local independent schools throughout the winter seasons. We offer rugby for girls both in Lower School U10’s and Middle School U14’s.

Both U18s and U16s teams are represented at the prestigious National Schools’ Rosslyn Park 7s. We hope to build and develop our rugby programme over the coming years.

Swimming is an inclusive part of our sports curriculum at ACS Cobham with students taking PE swimming lessons as early as Pre-Kindergarten at 3 years old all the way through to High School.

Given the development from a young age and also the opportunity to extend swimming activities after school, ACS Cobham boasts an enviable record when it comes to competitive swimming. Last year our Cougar Cub swim Team were the Regional Champions of the ISA as well as the National champions of the ISA.

On an international level ACS Cobham won the ISST Championship overall. This was the first time the overall ISST Championship was awarded to swimming in 50 years. ACS Cobham boasts an impressive 25m swimming pool and extensive dedicated swimming coaches.

Our sports arena is an impressive international-sized basketball and volleyball show court with sprung beechwood flooring and tiered seating for 280 spectators.  This is home to our ACS Cobham Cougar varsity teams for boys and girls.

Basketball and volleyball are two of our core sports at ACS Cobham with our students having the opportunity to try out at the start of each academic year

This spacious dance studio is used by students and parents in our community.  It has a sprung beechwood floor, wall-to-wall mirrors with a professional sound system.

It also includes specialised aerobic and spinning equipment for our students and parents to use during classes. We have a dance programme for our students at certain times of the year.

For our students aged from 15 years old upwards and our parent community the outstanding fitness suite is available to our community.  With the latest Technogym equipment overlooking our expansive campus it is a wonderful space to work out.

Our students have full induction programmes and sessions included within their school schedule. It is available for our parent community to use throughout the day and during weekends as well as for our boarding students.

ACS Cobham has six tennis courts situated close to the Sports Centre. Tennis is one of our seasonal sports. The tennis programme caters for all abilities in the spring season in creating a high-level performance and training culture that facilitates students to achieve their goals.

Those in the Tennis Academy will train and compete all-year. The Academy Tennis programme at ACS Cobham creates a high-level performance and training culture that facilitates students to achieve their goals of college and professional tennis.

We play in the Surrey League and play regular fixtures against LSSA schools.

We offer golf facilities on our spacious campus with five par-3 practice holes.

In addition our golf teams have access to the excellent facilities and PGA Professionals at Silvermere Golf Course for training and fixtures during the spring season (March–June).

Teams compete against local independent schools and take part in ISGA & HMC tournaments including the Scottish Open and Southern Open.

Our 5km Cross Country course takes you through our beautiful setting and is a joy to behold.

We are involved in Cross Country meets throughout the year at local and international schools. We also organise an annual LS House tournament.

We have an extensive Forest School and outdoor education programme at ACS Cobham. Given the very nature of our 128 acre campus we make the very best of the opportunities that we have for our students to enjoy these environments through our Forest School Programme.

We have qualified Forest School educators throughout the school which provides our students from the age of 2 upwards the opportunity to extend their education outdoors.

We have a bespoke T-Pee area which is set up for usage from various elements of school including Performing arts, extra curricular activities and at the weekends by the boarding community.

The magical setting enables children’s learning to take place and taps into their natural ability to learn more about the world around them.

With a forest play area, large playground, astroturf and tree houses, the wonderful outdoor facilities in the new development are also set to host our Forest School lessons, where children are able to explore meaningful experiences in the natural world for positive, lifelong learning.

We have developed plenty of playful spaces, where children can let their imagination come to the fore through loose parts play. This type of play fosters more diverse thinking and creativity where children are able to find their own solutions, ultimately helping them to conceptualise their learning and ideas.
