Home Language Enrichment - ACS Cobham

Home Language Enrichment

Programme overview

The free Home Language Enrichment (HLE) programme at ACS Cobham is dedicated to helping organise language classes for students’ home language.

This is designed to help students in Grades 6 to 10 whose first language isn’t English, to maintain their home language and culture.

We recognise the importance of multilingualism and how children who maintain their mother tongue, preserve their indigenous culture through language.

  • Students must have some communicative competence in the language to join an HLE class

  • The student does not need to be a citizen of the country where the native language is spoken or to have parents from that country

  • Enrichment is run by qualified teachers/tutors

  • Coordinated by HLE Coordinators with input from HLE teachers and parent run Country Representative Group

  • Classes are held before and after school for a maximum of 1 hour per week or during recess

  • The school will provide instruction in languages as part of the fee structure with a minimum class size of 2

  • Learner groups are organised usually by age and notability level

  • Parents of students whose home language is not covered by the HLE programme are welcome to contact the Home Language Coordinators at the school if they would like to arrange private home language instruction

If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes in his head. If you talk to him in his languages, that goes to his heart.
