ACS Cobham students commemorate World Kindness Day

ACS International School Cobham commemorated World Kindness Day (13 November) by marking the completion of its unique student-led art initiative, the Prosperity Flags Project, which invited students to design and create flags to represent each student’s own vision of hope, peace and compassion.

Led by the school’s senior students, the project launched in the summer term and enabled both parents and students from across the school to draw on their creativity to create a collective symbol of hope. Since then, the project has grown to highlight the important of collaboration and creativity, with students supporting one another to create their own flags.

Inspired by Tibetan prayer flags, the Prosperity Flags were made using the traditional dye and wax technique. The flags have been installed around the school campus to serve as a reminder of the spirit of togetherness during times of societal challenges and global conflict, as well as the multicultural and diverse ethos of the school.

Speaking about the initiative, co-leader of the project, Julie Lafrance, said: “The Prosperity Flags Project is much more than an art initiative. At a time when there is so much conflict in the world, we felt it important to create something that reflects our collective hope for a peaceful future, and celebrates our school values of inclusivity, creativity and global responsibility. We want this project to be a lasting expression of our shared values as a community, and thanks to our students creativity, they will serve as a constant source of inspiration and reflection for our students, staff and visitors alike.”
